If you read the newest issue of FreezeRay you’ll find a poem I wrote about radioactive monsters. Want to read more about the Cold War and film? Check out this extremely good book about early nuclear culture. Or just rent some 1950s sci-fi. Here two of my favorites:
So I forgot to mention this when the issue came out, but if you’re interested in reading some of my poems about the history of nuclear weapons testing, you can find two in the current issue of Consequence Magazine. I’ve been working on this project for several years now, and I’m really happy these pieces found a home there. The Operation Ivy poem (not the band) is a piece I’m particularly proud of– I often read it at shows. It’s actually an ekphrastic piece I wrote using this image after I finding it in How to Photograph an Atomic Bomb– an incredible compilation of bomb photography I found after it was mentioned this NY Times article. The article is also really worth reading– it’s about the filmmakers and photographers who photographed weapons tests during the Cold War, and was really one of the things that sparked this project in the first place.
New show date posted! I’ll be one of the features at the Boston edition of the New Shit Show this Thursday at 7:30pm at Fazenda Coffee Roasters in Jamaica Plain. The whole set’s going to be brand new work. Veronica Barron will also be performing new music, so definitely be there!
Hey guess what? I will be leading a workshop and doing a reading at Brandeis University a week from Tuesday on October 1st. If you can make it out, you should! More information TBA.
This coming Thursday, May 30, I am participating in a special edition of Moonlighting (the Boston Poetry Slam’s monthly LGBTQ reading series) that will serve as a benefit show for my dear friend Emily O’Neill. After a short open mic, Emily, Sam Teitel, Sean Patrick Mulroy, Cassandra de Alba, and myself will be doing a set. All proceeds from will go towards helping Emily get to the Tin House Fiction Workshop in Portland, Oregon. See you there!
Quick show update- I have a set as part of Cheap Seats 6 on May 16 at the Cambridge YMCA theater. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8. It’s gonna be a good time.
